Hello Parents!
I hope everyone is enjoying his or her weekend! I am so excited to have Monday off, but I already miss my new friends! The first week was AMAZING! I am so blessed to have these amazing children in my class! I cannot wait to see them again on Tuesday!
We learned so much this first week of school! At Mission Glen we waste no time at getting straight to learning. A few of the things we have learned this week is how to act safe in the classroom and all the classroom procedures. The neatest thing that we have started this week was our Daily 5 routine. Daily 5 is a small group routine where the children are independently learning. Daily 5 consist of 5 aspects, reading to self, reading with a buddy, writing, listening to reading and word work. We have to learn each aspect one at a time and at the moment we are learning read to self. The children learned the “3 ways to read a book”, read the words, read the pictures and retell the story. In order for us to move on to our next aspect of daily 5 we have to build at stamina of reading of 10 minutes, we are at 5 minutes!!!!!! THIS IS HUGE! That means that the children sat and read to themselves for 5 minutes! I am so proud of them! Please encourage your child to read to self and build their stamina!
I have a few things I want you guys to work on at home if you ever get a chance:
*Practice writing their entire name
*Putting only a capital letter at the start of their name
*READING TO YOUR CHILD, you are not only teaching them how to read, but also bonding with your child.
*Ask your child to read to you using the "3 ways to read a book"
Please bring a white T-Shirt to school by THURSDAY! This will allow me time to make the zero the hero shirts.
I am so grateful for your support! Please email me if you are interested in volunteering in our classroom or at the school!
THANK YOU!
Jessica Fitzpatrick
